Naturally aged Jeera Rice from West Bengal’s fertile fields - aromatic, flavourful, and with grains that stay fluffy for longer. Shaped by generations of careful cultivation and crafted for the celebrations and everyday meals that bring the family together.

Some rice carries a proud cultivation heritage. Jeera Rice - the Jeerakasala - has been shaped by generations of careful farming in the fertile fields of West Bengal. Naturally aged for greater aroma and flavour, its fine grains stay fluffy for longer, making it the trusted choice for biryanis, celebrations, and the everyday meals that bring the family together.
Grown in the fertile fields of West Bengal, Jeera Rice carries the region’s proud rice-growing heritage. The grain’s characteristic fine, cumin-like form and its ability to stay aromatic, flavourful and fluffy for longer are the mark of rice cultivated with patience and care, naturally aged to its full potential.
Inspired by Karnataka’s rich folk art tradition, the packaging brings together expressive characters, bold motifs and intricate detailing, celebrating the crafts and stories passed down through generations. A tribute to the deep connection between food, land, and culture.

Jeera Rice — also called Jeerakasala or Kaima — is a short-grain aromatic rice variety named for grains that resemble jeera (cumin) seeds. From West Bengal’s fertile fields, it is naturally aged for greater aroma and flavour, with grains that stay fluffy for longer than most rice varieties. It is the celebrated rice behind authentic Thalassery Biryani and Malabar Ghee Rice.
Natural aging is the key. The process deepens the grain’s flavour and aroma while developing a texture that holds beautifully through cooking — grains that stay separate, light, and fluffy even as the dish rests. This is what makes Jeera Rice the preferred choice for biryanis and festive pulaos where presentation matters as much as taste.
Jeera Rice excels in dishes that call for aromatic, separate grains with staying power: Thalassery Biryani, Malabar Biryani, Ghee Rice (Nei Choru), festive pulaos, and celebrations where rice is the centrepiece. Its natural aroma elevates every dish it is used in.
Both are True Origins short-grain aromatic rice varieties from West Bengal. Gobindobhog is softer, primarily used for Bengali sweet preparations and festive dishes like payesh and basanti pulao. Jeera Rice has a finer grain that stays fluffy for longer, making it the choice for biryani, ghee rice, and savoury festive cooking. Same proud origin, different culinary traditions.
True Origins is India Gate’s celebration of India’s diverse rice-growing regions. Each True Origins variant carries the authentic essence of the land it comes from — the soil, the climate, the farming traditions, the cultural heritage. Jeera Rice is sourced from the fertile fields of West Bengal, carrying that region’s proud rice heritage from farm to plate.
